Kiwi's story

Kiwi was surrendered when his owner took night shifts and the flat stayed dark and silent all day. Parrots are flock animals — the quiet loneliness was making him pluck his chest feathers.

With daytime company, music and foraging toys, his feathers grew back and his chatter returned. He steps onto a finger, rides shoulders, wolf-whistles at the kettle and answers his name with a chirp.

Good to know

  • Steps up and shoulder-rides
  • Whistles back, learning words
  • Loves foraging toys and millet
  • Needs company most of the day

Daily care at a glance

  • Large flight cage plus 3–4 hours out daily
  • Seed, pellets, veg and fruit — no avocado or chocolate
  • 12 hours covered sleep in a quiet corner
  • Avian vet checks yearly; beak and nails monitored

Ideal home

A home where someone is around days — remote workers ideal. No cats with unsupervised access.

Three steps to adopt

  1. 1. Meet-and-greet. Come and spend time with Kiwi at the shelter — bring everyone who lives with you.
  2. 2. Home check. A short visit or video call to confirm space, setup and routine suit a Bird · Green parrot.
  3. 3. Homecoming. Sign, pay the fee, and take Kiwi home with food, records and a month of message support.
